Frequently Asked Questions About Surf Broadband Fiber Internet Service

  1. Can I have a Static IP?
    At this time Static IP's are not available on Surf Internet Gigabit Fiber.
  2. Can I have IPv6?
    Currently IPv6 is not available on Surf Internet Gigabit Fiber.
  3. Can the router be relocated / moved?
    No, it is not feasible to move the router once it has been installed. One exception is if a longer Ethernet cable is installed between our fiber modem and your router.
  4. How long does a typical installation take?
    An installation can take up to four (4) hours. But most installations only require about ninety (90) minutes to complete.
  5. Does Surf Internet Gigabit Fiber have a data cap?
    No! Absolutely NOT! Never! Surf Internet doesn't believe in data caps on fiber.
  6. Is Surf Internet Gigabit Fiber compatible with my existing home security service?
    In most cases, yes - home security systems are compatible with Surf Internet Gigabit Fiber.  However, for a definitive answer, be sure to consult your home security provider.
  7. Can I use my own equipment?
    Yes, you can use your own equipment. However, Surf Internet does not provide Support for the configuration / set-up of third party devices. We think our managed WiFi is pretty amazing, be sure to check it out: surfinternet.com/wifi
  8. I don't need phone service, can I have internet only?
    Absolutely! We find that most home owners are only using their cell phones and think that's wonderful. If you still need a home phone we do offer a solution that our team can discuss with you. 
  9. How many Ethernet ports do I get?
    When you obtain your router or managed WiFi through Surf Internet, it comes with one Ethernet port to the LAN. However, you can absolutely purchase a compatible router on your own that may have more ports, or a small switch that can extend the number of Ethernet ports needed. But be advised, Surf Internet does not provide Support for the configuration / set-up of third party devices.
