Slow WiFi can be frustrating. If your internet feels sluggish, there are several common reasons it might be happening. This guide will help you identify the cause and get your connection back up to speed.
Quick check first: Try loading a website on a different device connected to your WiFi (like a phone, tablet, or laptop). If other devices work fine, the issue might be with just that one device—not your WiFi network.
1. Your Device Is Too Far from Your eero™
WiFi signals weaken with distance, especially when walls and floors get in the way.
Fix it:

Move closer to your eero™.

Use the eero™ app to check the signal strength to the device.

If your home has multiple floors or large spaces, consider adding another eero™.
2. Too Many Devices Are Competing for Bandwidth
Streaming, video calls, downloads, smart TVs, and gaming consoles all use up bandwidth—especially if they’re active at the same time.
Fix it:

Disconnect unused devices.

Pause background updates or large downloads.

If your household is consistently busy online, you may benefit from a higher-speed plan.
3. Your Equipment Needs a Restart
Sometimes your network just needs a quick refresh.
Fix it:

Unplug your eero™ and your Adtran ONT for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.

Wait for the eero™ light to turn solid white and the ONT to show a green light.

4. Interference from Walls, Electronics, or Furniture
WiFi signals can be blocked or weakened by thick walls, large appliances, and even mirrors.
Fix it:

Move your eero™ to a more central, open area.

Keep it off the floor and away from TVs, speakers, and metal furniture.

Make sure your eero™ devices are spaced about 30–50 feet apart.
5. Your Internet Plan May Not Match Your Needs
If you regularly stream 4K content, game online, or work from home with multiple users, it’s worth checking your current speed.
Fix it:
