WiFi Not Working in Part of the House? Here's What to Do

Dead zones or weak signals in certain rooms can be frustrating. If part of your home has unreliable Wi-Fi, don't worry. With Surf’s Wi-Fi powered by eero™, there are a few easy things you can try to improve your coverage.

Step 1: Check Signal Strength with the eero™ App

The eero™ app is the best place to start when diagnosing WiFi issues. Here's what to do:

  • Open the app and tap on a connected device that’s having issues.

  • Scroll down to check the signal strength listed for that device.

  • If the signal is listed as Weak or Poor, the device may be too far from the nearest eero™.

💡 Tip: You can also use the eero™ app to test your internet speed and view which eero™ devices are connected to which devices.

Step 2: Check eero™ Placement

Each eero™ broadcasts a strong WiFi signal, but like any WiFi router, its range can be affected by things like walls, floors, and appliances. Make sure your eero™ units are:

  • In central, open areas — Avoid hiding them in cabinets or behind TVs.

  • Off the floor — Place them on a shelf or table, ideally at waist height or higher.

  • Far from large electronics — TVs, microwaves, and wireless speakers can interfere with signal.

💡Ideal spacing: eero™ devices work best when they’re within 30–50 feet of each other (or one to two rooms apart).

Step 3: Consider Adding Another eero™

If you have a large home or areas with thick walls or multiple floors, you may need one or more additional eero™ devices to get full coverage.

  • Surf can help determine whether your home would benefit from an extra eero™.

  • You can contact us to ask about options for expanding your Whole-Home WiFi setup.

💡 Remember: All eero™ devices in your Surf setup are automatically updated and managed, so you never have to worry about manual setup or firmware updates.

Step 4: Restart Your eero™ Network

Sometimes, a quick reboot can fix temporary signal drops. To do this:

  1. Open the eero™ app.

  2. Tap Settings > Advanced > Restart Network.

  3. Wait a few minutes for your network to come back online.
